He has also attended Bike Unit training and has gone out on Bike Patrol on the Heritage Trail. Sheriff DuBois’ mantra is “Lead By Example” He has participated in Crime Sweeps and has made numerous visits to the Annual Night Out Against Crime venues. He has two sons, Austin, who is an attorney in Goshen, NY and Griffin, who is a stage actor in New York City. Sheriff DuBois is married to the former Barbara Fitzgerald and has been married for over 30 years. He is also very active with the Boy Scouts of America. He is a member of various civic, charitable and community organizations, such as the Brittany Miller Foundation, which raises funds and support for pediatric cancer and Middletown Salvation Army Board. He retired from both Justice positions when he entered his name in to candidacy for Orange County Sheriff in 2002, winning the election and assuming office January 1, 2003. He then went on to become the Village Justice in Otisville in 1998 and Town Justice of Mt. He served as Police Commissioner of the Town of Mt. He was responsible for the maintenance of a large area network in Orange County and surrounding areas, as well the Middletown Office of the Frontier wide area network. ![]() He retired from the Middletown police department in 1997 and took a job with Frontier Communications as a technical computer systems analyst. During his career, he went on to study Criminal Justice in college, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree, Cum Laude, from Mercy College in Westchester County in 1982. He was also an instructor at the Chester Police Academy and Rockland County Police Academy for several years. Sheriff DuBois was also the Information Systems Administrator and was instrumental in transitioning the department into the use of computers. He rose from an undercover narcotics investigator to street cop, detective and then to Sergeant as commanding officer of the Middletown Detective Unit, to uniform Lieutenant. Sheriff DuBois started his law enforcement career in 1974 with the Middletown Police Department and his career spanned some of the most turbulent times in the department’s history. He attended Minisink High School and graduated in 1972. DuBois was born and raised in Orange County.
